School Board Vacancy

As of July 15, 2019 and through August 9, 2019:

Candidate information packets are available for interested individuals who plan to submit an application to run in the November 2019 election for Trustee Area Number(s) 1, 2, 3, and 4. NOMINATION PERIOD (E.C. §§ 10602, 10603, 13107, 13307, 13309, 13311)
Between these dates candidates may obtain and file declarations of candidacy. Forms are available at the Registrar of Voters and at the school district office. All forms must be filed with the Registrar of Voters by the filing deadline. It is the responsibility of each candidate to deliver their nomination documents to the Registrar of Voters by 5:00 p.m. on the deadline date. The ballot designation worksheet must be filed at the same time as the Declaration of Candidacy. Candidates who want to file a candidate statement must file it at the same time the Declaration of Candidacy is filed. Candidate Statements are confidential until the deadline for filing has passed. No person shall file nomination documents for more than one district office at the same time.

The vacancy has been filled. The Governing Board of Banning Unified School District at the May 16, 2019 Regular Board meeting provisionally appointed George E. Moyer who will take his oath of office at the May 30, 2019 Board meeting. See Public Notice of Vacancy and Provisional Appointment here.

To challenge the appointment and order a special election, the following must be filed with the Riverside County Superintendent of Schools within 30 days from the date of the provisional appointment:
  • File a petition calling for a special election containing the valid signatures of at least 1 ½ percent of the number of registered voters of the district at the time of the last regular election for governing board members held within the Banning Unified School District, or 25 registered voters of the district, whichever is greater, or
  • In districts with less than 2,000 registered voters, a petition shall be deemed to bear a sufficient number of signatures if signed by at least 5 percent of the number of registered voters of the district at the time of the last regular election for governing board members.


A vacancy now exists on the Governing Board of Banning Unified School District and a provisional appointment will be made to fill the position.

The Banning Unified School District is accepting applications from qualified persons who would like to be considered for appointment.

Qualified candidates must be:

  • A California registered voter residing within the boundaries of Banning Unified School District Trustee Area #1
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Not disqualified by the constitution or laws of the state from holding a civil office
  • Not an employee of the Banning Unified School District (Should any such employee choose to apply and is selected, employment would be terminated upon being sworn in to office).
