On June 15, 2020, the Banning-Beaumont Student of the Month Program named students of the year for both Banning High School and Coombs Alternative Education. The honorees were Jasmine Vega Garcia, Banning High School, and Krista Calderon, Coombs Alternative Education.

The Banning-Beaumont Student of the Month Program works to honor and praise local high school seniors for demonstrating character, integrity, love of learning, involvement in school activities, athletics, and community service. The program recognizes students who have overcome challenging life circumstances without compromising their education. Each month a Student of the Month is selected for each school. A Student of the Year for each school is selected from among the students on the month.

Jasmine Vega Garcia, Banning High School
Jasmine was nominated by Banning High School as the February Student of the Month. In addition to being honored as a student of the month, Jasmine has earned the Seal of Multi-literacy awarded by the Riverside County Office of Education, academic achievement awards from the BHS Academy of Business, and she made the honor roll for thirteen consecutive years.Jasmine will be attending California Baptist University in the fall where she will peruse a Bachelor’s degree for Biomedical Science. Jasmine will also be a member of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps and intends to enlist in the U.S. Army. Her long term career goals lie in the areas of Medical and Emergency Response fields.

Jasmine is proud of the growth she experienced at BHS and she intends to continue striving for success and to accomplish every goal she sets her future. Jasmine notes that "the person I am now knows how to take on challenges without being afraid, knows how to take care of those I care about, and knows how to always stay determined to accomplish success." Her priority is to be of service to others.

Krista Calderon, Coombs Alternative Education
Krista was nominated by Banning Independent Study as the October Student of the Month. Krista posseses self-confidence and willingness to do the right thing even if she is alone. Krista is not easily intimidated by difficulties or challenges. She is proud of what she has accomplished despite the obstacles that stood in her way.

Krista plans to attend Mt San Jacinto College in the fall before transferring to a four-year school to pursue a bachelor's degree in communications, and continue her work as an artist and poet. She hopes to obtain an internship and learn from skilled public speakers. Her ultimate goal is to work with sexual assault and abuse survivors. She plans to travel the world sharing her story.
