Legendary coach has 35 years of experience with a passion for leading, rebuilding football programs
A coach with more than three decades of experience will now lead the Banning High School Broncos football program.
John Tyree comes to the program with a wealth of knowledge and experience that will help Banning football continue along the pathway to success and provide leadership and guidance to student-athletes. He has been a head coach for 35 years, most recently with Calexico High School.
“We are honored to welcome Coach Tyree as our next head football coach,” said Keith Chann,
Director of Athletics at Banning High School. “He has a passion for football, a desire for success
and drive to rebuild programs in need. He has built winning programs from the ground up at almost every stop on his coaching journey. We are pleased and excited to bring Coach Tyree into the Banning High School family.”
Tyree has compiled 227 wins over his career, as well as two California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section championships and one runner-up finish. His teams in California and Oklahoma have made the playoffs 22 times. Tyree was twice named CIF-Southern Section Coach of the Year, along with Southwest Oklahoma Coach of the Year.
Tyree is also a member of the Inland Empire Football Hall of Fame and the Imperial Valley Football Hall of Fame.
The Banning Broncos open up the 2021 season versus Canyon Springs on August 27 at 7 p.m.
