Colette Burgess, Principal of Florida Street Discovery Center
About the Principal
Colette Burgess started her professional career being a teacher’s assistant in kindergarten with the Los Angeles Unified School District. She then later became a teacher with the Children’s Center while attending Cal State Los Angeles.
In 2001, she started teaching third grade at Holmes Elementary School until 2006.
Since then she joined the Banning Unified School District as a Math and Science teacher at Coombs Intermediate. She obtained her Masters from Kaplan University in Curriculum and Instruction. She later went to work as a kindergarten teacher for one year at Cabazon Elementary. The following year she went back to teach Math and Science with the fifth grade students at Cabazon Elementary.
In 2015, she entered the position of Preschool Director and TK Principal while completing a Preliminary Administrative degree at the University of Redlands.
Ms. Colette Burgess has dedicated her career in education, she enjoys working with children and watching them grow. Her years of experience have taught her the value of patience and encouragement.
Her goal is to continue to be a leader who can uplift, motivate and encourage her staff as they prepare our students in our community to become successful individuals.
Colette Burgess was born from a Jamaican father and Haitian mother and was born in Loma Linda California. She grew up in a diverse community, which motivated her to become an educator especially in communities in need. She personally believes in being equal and treating others with respect.
