Dr. Tonia Causey-Bush
Dr. Causey-Bush has served in public education for 30 years and currently serves as the Assistant Superintendent of Academic Services with the Banning Unified School District where she is responsible for Educational Services, Student Services, Special Education and Information Technology. Prior to this she served in several administrative capacities including the Director of Teaching and Learning with the Fontana Unified School District where she led the district's ethnic studies task force bringing in stakeholders in the community to work with staff to outline needs for professional development around cultural proficiency as well as adding ethnic studies courses at the high school level. She was also the principal of Mango Elementary in Fontana, the Senior Director of Assessment, Research, and Evaluation in the Rialto Unified School District, and as a Middle School Administrator and Program Specialist in the Rialto Unified School District. She started as a student teacher in New York City before beginning her career as a teacher in the Pomona Unified School District and later in the Lubbock Independent School District in Lubbock, TX. She also served on the education faculty at Texas Tech University in Lubbock as a Visiting Assistant Professor.
She is a member of several local and national professional organizations and is a published author with a recent publication on cultural relevancy in the Association of California School Administrators’ (ACSA) Leadership Magazine. She has presented at numerous local, state, and national conferences and received several honors some of which include the Outstanding Leadership In Education Award from the California Association of African American Superintendents and Administrators, the ACSA Region 12 Annual Curriculum and Instructor Administrator of the Year Award, a Fulbright Memorial Fund Teacher Award to visit schools in Japan, the Texas Tech University Chancellor’s Office for Outstanding Leadership and Service Award, and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Eta Nu Omega Educational Leadership and Service Award.
Dr. Causey-Bush earned a Ph.D. in Education from Claremont Graduate University with a concentration in Human Development and Quantitative Analysis, has a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from Columbia University in New York City, a Master of Arts in Educational Administration from California State University, San Bernardino, and a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley. Most importantly, she is a mother to three children including one daughter completing a medical residency, one daughter in medical school, and a son who is attending an HBCU.
