Leadership Through Governance
The Governance Team at Banning Unified School District brings together the Board of Trustees and Superintendent in support of the District's mission to Prepare, Inspire, and Educate.
Through their distinct governance and administrative roles, the Board and Superintendent work together to establish District direction, support accountability, and maintain a focus on student achievement, effective operations, and engagement with the community.
Shared Direction, Distinct Responsibilities
Effective governance depends on clearly defined roles and collaboration. The Board of Trustees provides governance, policy direction, and oversight, while the Superintendent provides administrative leadership for the District and carries out the direction established by the Board.
How District Governance Works
The Board of Trustees and Superintendent have different but complementary responsibilities in the leadership of the District.
Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees establishes District policies, adopts the budget, sets organizational direction and priorities, and provides governance oversight on behalf of the community.
Superintendent
The Superintendent serves as the District's chief administrative leader, providing Districtwide leadership and supporting implementation of Board direction, policies, priorities, and approved plans.
