Summer Expanded Learning Programs

Banning Unified School District is committed to improving student achievement.  Along with providing standards-based instruction during the regular school year, Banning USD will offer several summer programs to support student learning, enrichment, and learning gloss mitigation.   These programs include: Summer School, Summer Enrichment Program, and Extended School Year (ESY).  Through these programs, Banning Unified School District will offer at least 9 hours of instructional and enrichment time between 8:00 am and 6:30 pm. Transportation, breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Summer School

From June 4 – July 3, 2025, our Summer School Program provides students with an opportunity to strengthen their academic skills, recover credits, and prepare for the next school year. With a focus on core subjects, students will receive targeted instruction to support their success. Breakfast and lunch are provided daily.

Elementary Program at Hoffer Elementary

The elementary program will focus on building core academic skills in English Language Arts while incorporating engaging hands-on learning through the Treobytes STEM curriculum for students in 3rd grade and up. Students will also enjoy daily recess and meals. The learning environment is designed to be interactive and supportive to help students thrive.

Middle School Program at Banning High School

The middle school program is tailored to support students in reinforcing key academic subjects and participating in STEM-based enrichment. Students will rotate through sessions focused on English Language Arts, Math, and Treobytes programming.

High School Program at Banning High School

The high school summer program is designed for students seeking to recover credits, improve academic performance, or stay on track for graduation. Students will have the opportunity to complete two semester-long courses in core subject areas.

Morning Schedule: 8:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Afternoon Edmentum Option: 12:35 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Extended School Year (ESY)

From June 4 – July 3, 2025, our Extended School Year (ESY) Program provides continued instructional support for eligible students with disabilities as determined by their Individualized Education Program (IEP). ESY is designed to help students maintain critical skills and prevent regression over the summer, ensuring continued progress in their learning and development. Instruction is tailored to each student’s unique needs, focusing on their IEP goals in a structured and supportive environment. Breakfast and lunch are provided daily.

This program is available only to students whose IEP teams have determined ESY services are necessary for their educational progress.

Summer Enrichment Program

Banning Unified School District’s Summer Enrichment Program is designed to support academic growth, social development, and enrichment.  The program offers students hands-on learning opportunities in areas such as STEM, arts, physical activity, and leadership.  

The program provides a minimum of 9 hours of daily instruction and enrichment, ensuring students have access to a safe, structured, and stimulating environment beyond the traditional school year.  Breakfast, lunch, and snacks are provided daily.

The Summer Enrichment Program is open to K-8th grade students, prioritizing those identified as needing additional support, including English learners, foster youth, and low-income students

  • Program will be closed June 19th and July 4th holidays 

TK – 5th Grade Summer Enrichment Program

  • Schedule: 

    • 7:30 AM – 8:00 AM: Breakfast

    • 8:00 AM - 12:30 PM: Summer School Session/STEM Activities (Third to Fifth Grade Only)

    • 12:30 PM – 6:30 PM: Enrichment session

6th – 8th Grade Summer Enrichment Program

  • Schedule: 

    • 7:30 AM – 8:00 AM: Breakfast (at Banning High School)

    • 8:00 AM - 12:30 PM: Summer School Session/STEM Activities (at Banning High School)

    • 12:30 PM – 6:30 PM: Enrichment session (At Boys and Girls Club Teen Center)

      • Transportation to Teen Center will be provided.

Meals & Nutrition

Breakfast and lunch will be provided daily at all summer school sites. In addition to on-campus meals, the District will operate several open meal sites.

Meal service times at open sites are generally between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Please contact the District Office or school site for specific distribution details.

Transportation

The District will offer transportation for students enrolled in the Summer School Program. Bus routes and pickup/drop-off times will be shared once they are finalized.
