Adult Community Forum

Banning Unified School District proudly recognizes Angela Marruffo, a 2025 graduate of Banning Adult Education, for representing the District with strength and inspiration at the Southwest Riverside Adult Education (SRAE) Community Forum on May 2, 2025.

SRAE is a regional collaborative of eight K–12 adult schools, the Riverside County Office of Education, and Mt. San Jacinto College, dedicated to serving adults who are often underrepresented in traditional education systems. The forum brought together students and educators from Banning USD, Beaumont USD, Hemet USD, Lake Elsinore USD, Murrieta Valley USD, Mt. San Jacinto College, Temecula Valley USD, San Jacinto USD, and Perris Union High School District to share their stories and celebrate the life-changing impact of adult education.

During the student panel, Angela shared her personal journey as a mother of six who returned to school to earn her high school diploma. Starting over with her two youngest daughters, Angela wanted to show her children that it is never too late—and no one is ever too old or too young—to pursue their goals. “If you fall short, remember to dust yourself off—you can succeed,” she told the audience.

Angela’s experience with Banning Adult Education gave her renewed confidence and courage. “I now believe in myself,” she said. “I’m going to continue my education and build a better life for my children.” Although she had tried many times before, Angela said this time was different—this time, she nailed it. She also expressed her heartfelt gratitude to her teachers, Mr. Aja and Miss Souda, for their encouragement and support.

Dr. Melissa Lee, Principal of Banning Adult Education, highlighted Angela’s perseverance and leadership: “Angela is one of many adult learners whose story speaks to the power of second chances. She represented Banning USD with grace, strength, and authenticity.”

Banning Adult Education provides a vital pathway for adults to earn their high school diploma, prepare for the GED, improve English language skills through ESL classes, or build new career skills. With flexible scheduling, small class sizes, and personalized support, the program empowers adult learners to overcome barriers and build brighter futures for themselves and their families.
